Bearcat women announce 2012-13 slate
MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State women’s basketball team and first-year head coach Mark Kellogg have announced their schedule for the upcoming 2012-13 campaign.
A Division I exhibition at Iowa State on Nov. 1 highlights the opening weekend of play as the Bearcats will return home for their first five games including an exhibition against Peru State on Nov. 3 and the Winnstead-Reeves Classic Nov. 16-17.
Northwest continues tournament play at the Colorado Christian Tournament in Denver over Thanksgiving weekend Nov. 24-25. The Bearcats will face Colorado Christian and Texas Women’s before a non-conference matchup at Rogers State in Claremore, Okla., to open the month of December.
The Bearcats open MIAA play at home with a pair of newcomers to the league, Lindenwood on Dec. 5 and Nebraska-Kearney on Dec. 8.
After the New Year the Bearcat women will open with six of their first seven games on the road starting Jan. 3 at Missouri Southern and Jan. 5 at NCAA South Central Region Champion Pittsburg State. A midweek game with Lincoln splits the road swings up on Jan. 16 as pivotal road games at Central Oklahoma, Southwest Baptist and Central Missouri finish a tough month.
Home games during February include defending MIAA Champion Washburn on Feb. 16 and the regular season finale against Truman March 2.
For the first time the MIAA Basketball Championships will feature a play-in games of the 5-12 seeds on campus sites March 5 with winning teams advancing to Kansas City. The top four seeds, along with the advancing 4 seeds from first round games will resume action from Municipal Auditorium March 8, with a champion being crowned March 10.
