Henry earns All-MIAA honors

MARYVILLE, Mo. – Senior Abby Henry added her third career All-MIAA award on Monday as she was the lone Northwest Missouri State player to receive honors announced by the league office.

Henry closed her career playing in over 100 games for the Bearcats and joined the all-time top 10 scoring list this year with 1,391 points. She is also in the all-time top 10 for free throw percentage and her 208 steals rank her fifth all-time.

The Bellevue, Neb., native also holds school records for free throws in a game and most free throws made in a season. Henry’s 12.2 points per game ranks her 10th all-time in scoring average as her 406 assists place her fifth on the all-time list in Northwest history.

Washburn guard Ebonie Williams was chosen as MIAA Player of the Year, and Pittsburg State head coach Lane Lord was selected as MIAA Coach of the Year to headline the 2011-12 all-conference women’s basketball team. The selections were made by the league's 11 head coaches, and coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players.

Pittsburg State led the league with five All-MIAA selections, followed by Central Missouri, Fort Hays State, Southwest Baptist and Washburn with three each, Lincoln, Missouri Western and Truman with two each, and Emporia State, Missouri Southern and Northwest Missouri with one each.

The MIAA Centennial Basketball Championships begin Thursday at Municipal Auditorium in Downtown Kansas City with the women's first round. Women's award winners and All-MIAA First Team selections will be recognized prior to the 6 p.m. game Thursday evening.
