Bearcats head to No. 12 Gorillas
MARYVILLE, Mo. – Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team continues MIAA play Saturday as they travel to Pittsburg, Kansas to take on the 12th-ranked Pittsburg State Gorillas. Tip off from John Lance Arena is slated for 1:30 p.m.
Northwest takes a 4-17 overall record and 2-11 conference record into the matchup against No. 10 Pittsburg State. The Bearcats have currently lost five straight, including a 58-55 home loss to 10th-ranked Northeastern State this past Wednesday.
The Bearcats currently have one player scoring in double figures. Senior guard, Abby Henry, averages 12.6 points per game while senior guard Shelly Martin comes in at just below the double-digit mark contributing 9.6 points per game. Freshman post, Maggie Marnin, leads the team in rebounding pulling down 6.4 rebounds per game while also chipping in 7.2 points per game.
Northwest is currently pacing the MIAA in steals averaging 10.7 steals per game as a team. Henry is pacing Northwest with 43 steals on the season and ranks third in the MIAA averaging 2.4 steals per game while Martin is averaging 2.1 steals per game.
The No. 16 Pittsburg State Gorillas have bounced back from their Jan. 18 road loss to Northeastern State with four consecutive wins, including two on the road.
Brooke Conley is leading the Gorillas offensively averaging 13.6 points per game while Lizzy Jeronimus and Larissa Richards are also averaging double-figures.
Pittsburg State leads the series with Northwest 24-20. Each team leads on its home court, with the Gorillas leading 14-5 in Pittsburg and the Bearcats lead 11-10 in Maryville. Northwest leads on neutral sites, 3-1.
Northwest will continue MIAA play next Wednesday when they host the Missouri Western Gorillas.
