MARYVILLE, Mo. – Northwest Missouri State women’s basketball team opens the February portion of the home schedule as it hosts Northeastern State in non-conference action Wednesday night. Tip off from Bearcat Arena is slated for 6:00 p.m.
Northwest currently sits at 4-16 overall and 2-11 in conference play where they are in a two-way tie for last place.
The Bearcats are in the midst of a four-game slide and are averaging just 60.8 points per game. Abby Henry is leading the Bearcats offensively, averaging 12.7 points per game, while no other player is averaging in double digits for Northwest.
Northwest is currently pacing the MIAA in steals averaging 10.7 steals per game as a team. Henry is pacing Northwest with 40 steals on the season and ranks third in the MIAA averaging 2.4 steals per game while Shelly Martin is averaging 1.9 steals per game.
The 6th-ranked Northeastern State Riverhawks are coming off of just their second loss of the season having lost to Central Oklahoma in overtime on Saturday; the Riverhawks only other loss of the season was to Emporia State on Dec. 6. Northeastern State currently sits at 17-2 overall.
The Riverhawks are led offensively by senior guard Taylor Lewis who is averaging 11.2 points per game.
The Riverhawks were the No. 1 seed in last year’s South Central Region hosting the Regional tournament. However, the two teams did not meet as the Bearcats won the region and advanced to the Elite Eight.
This will be just the fourth meeting between these two teams and the Bearcats have never been able to overcome the Riverhawks.
Northeastern State will officially joining the MIAA for the 2012-13 season.
