Bearcats set to host Tigers in MIAA Game of the Week
MARYVILLE, Mo. – Northwest Missouri State continues MIAA play Saturday when they host the Fort Hays State Tigers in the MIAA Network’s Game of the Week. Tip from Bearcat Arena is set for 1:07 p.m.
The Tigers have never won when playing in Bearcat Arena and they are looking to snap a three-game losing streak when they meet the Bearcats, who are the defending MIAA champions
Northwest currently sits at 4-15 overall and 2-10 in conference play where they are in a two-way tie for last place.
The Bearcats have lost three consecutive games and are averaging just 61.8 points per game. Abby Henry, who missed three games earlier this season due to a hand injury, is leading the Bearcats offensively, averaging 13.3 points per game, while no other player is averaging in double digits for Northwest.
Northwest is currently leading the MIAA in steals averaging 10.9 steals per game as a team. Henry is pacing Northwest with 40 steals on the season and ranks third in the MIAA averaging 2.5 steals per game while Shelly Martin is averaging 1.8 steals per game.
Fort Hays State sits at 14-5 overall and 6-5 in conference play. The Tigers took the first match-up against the Bearcats this season beating them 65-45 at Gross Memorial Coliseum; however, the Tigers come into the match-up against the Bearcats having lost three of their last four games.
Offensively, Katelyn Edwards is leading the Tigers averaging 15.7 points per game. Edwards exploded for a season-high 33 points in the Tigers' game against Lincoln last Saturday, and she continues to lead the team in rebounding as well, averaging 7.8 rebounds per game.
The Tigers and Bearcats have split the season series in each of the last four seasons, with the home team winning each meeting, after Northwest swept Fort Hays State in 2006-07.
Northwest will continue their home stand next Wednesday when they host Northeastern State Oklahoma in a non-conference match-up.
