Bearcats open MIAA play
MARYVILLE, Mo. – After returning to the mainland Gene Steinmeyer and the Northwest Missouri State women’s team looks to find its stride. The Bearcats open MIAA action against Emporia State Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. from Bearcat Arena.
Northwest struggled in its first three games, however a trip to Hawaii has the Bearcats playing a more confident brand of basketball. The Bearcats have been playing without All-MIAA guard Abby Henry, but have found production unexpectedly from a pair of underclassmen, Ashley Thayer and Maggie Marnin.
Thayer emerged knocking down four three-pointers in each game of the Oahu Classic to pace the way as the leading scorer in each. She has also been solid with 11 assists in those two games as well.
Marnin has earned a starting spot in each of the last three games for the Bearcats after starting the season coming off the bench. She has recorded two double-doubles in her last three games and has been a solid compliment with Tara Roach in the post seeing her average in points (7.8) and rebounds (8.5) spike as well.
The road does not get any easier for the Bearcats as they continue their conference slate at home with a Saturday night matchup with Washburn before closing out their December home schedule on Dec. 7 hosting Pittsburg State.
