Bearcats pick up Thanksgiving win
HONOLULU, Hawaii – Northwest Missouri State knocked down 11 three pointers to take a 79-67 Thanksgiving victory over St. Augustine’s Thursday to open the Oahu Classic.
The Bearcats picked up their second consecutive win to move to 2-3 on the year. It was the first loss of the season for St. Augustine’s who fell to 3-1 in the day’s first game. Northwest will take on Hillsdale on Friday to close out the classic.
Ashley Thayer and Meridee Scott each nailed four three-pointers to combine for 8 of the Bearcats 11 treys. Thayer was a perfect 4 for 4 and finished with a game high 20 points.
Northwest led from the opening tip as Thayer drilled her first three-pointer of the game as the Bearcats never looked back. With 8:35 left in the first half Thayer would knock down her second three to extend the Bearcat lead to double digits, 24-13.
The Falcons would mount a small comeback, but Shelly Martin would hit from long range at the buzzer of the first half putting the Bearcats back up by double digits. A lead they would hold onto the entire second half.
Martin hit three treys to finish with nine points.
Both Tara Roach and Maggie Marnin recorded double-doubles in the win to give the Bearcats four players in double figures. Marnin was outstanding on the boards again with a season high 18 rebounds and 17 points. Roach finished with 16 rebounds and 13 points.
Scott finished with a season high 13 points going 4 of 7 from behind the three-point arc.
