Curtis named program's first All-American

MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State senior guard Gabby Curtis was named a first-team All-American Monday as selected by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). The announcement was made at the Elite Eight Banquet of Champions in St. Joseph, Mo.

Curtis is the first player in program history to earn All-America honors. She has scored 574 points this season, a total that leads the MIAA and ranks 13th in the nation. She's averaging 17.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and more than two steals per game.

Curtis was named MIAA Player of the Year and was a unanimous first-team all-conference selection earlier this season. She was named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament last week after averaging more than 20 points in leading the Bearcats (28-4) to their first Elite Eight appearance.

A native of Ganado, Ariz., Curtis is in her second season at Northwest after spending two seasons at Cowley County Community College in Kansas.

Roehrig earns honorable mention

Northwest Missouri State senior center Kyla Roehrig was one of several student-athletes who earned WBCA honorable mention honors. Roehrig is averaging 14.5 points and her 11.7 rebounds per contest are 11th-best in the nation.

Roehrig earned first-team All-MIAA honors and was named the league's top defensive player earlier this season. She averaged 17 points and 15 rebounds at the regional tournament and joined Curtis on the all-tournament team. Roehrig has 16 double-doubles and has recorded double-digit rebounds 22 times in 32 games.
