Regional title on the line tonight in Tahlequah
TAHLEQUAH, Okla.-Northwest Missouri State goes for its first-ever regional championship tonight when the 19th-ranked Bearcats take on Central Oklahoma at 7 p.m. from Northeastern State's Dobbins Fieldhouse.
Second-seeded Northwest (27-4) has enjoyed double-digit wins against Texas Woman's (92-73) and Tarleton State (77-61) to advance to the NCAA South Central Regional final. Gabby Curtis has averaged more than 20 points at the tournament while teammate Kyla Roehrig has averaged 19 points and 14.5 rebounds.
Fifth-seeded Central Oklahoma (22-9) has upset fourth-seeded Washburn (65-64) and top-seeded Northeastern State (68-60) in its run to the final. Ashley Beckley has averaged 20 points per game to lead the Bronchos.
The winner joins seven other regional champions in the Elite Eight to be held March 22-25 in St. Joseph, Mo.
Northwest has won 12 of its last 13 games and has a program-record 27 wins this season. The Bearcats have advanced past the second round of the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history.
