Northwest basketball teams promote cancer awareness
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State's men's and women's basketball teams will dedicate Wednesday's MIAA doubleheader against Truman to promote cancer awareness. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the games which begin at 5:30 p.m. at Bearcat Arena.
Wednesday is "Fight like Lynne Night" in honor of Lynne Gilbert who works out of the president's office at Northwest and who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. All proceeds raised from a silent auction will go to the Gilberts to help offset the cost of Lynne's treatments.
Lynne's family includes her husband, Ray, and children Will, Kyle and Anne. Will and Kyle are in college while Anne is a junior in high school. Lynne, Ray and Anne will be in attendance.
Both Northwest basketball teams will wear special warm-up T-shirts provided by the Student Body in Maryville. Each player will sign their T-shirt and each shirt will be placed in a silent auction near the entrance to Bearcat Arena. The auction winners will be announced at the last media timeout of the men's game (approximately 9:15 p.m.).
