Balanced attack leads Northwest in win
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.-Five Bearcats scored in double figures in route to an 81-59 victory Wednesday night as 22nd-ranked Northwest Missouri State defeated Lincoln in Jefferson City, Mo. In all, 11 Bearcats scored in the win.
Gabby Curtis led all scorers with 16 points, and added eight rebounds and three assists. Kyla Roehrig scored 14 points and pulled-down seven boards, Abby Henry had 12 points and seven helpers in the victory. Gentry Dietz and Tara Roach each added 10 points.
Lincoln (2-19, 1-16 MIAA) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead but Northwest (18-3, 14-3 MIAA) scored the next 10 points of the game and didn't look back, building a 41-26 halftime advantage. The Bearcats shot 5-for-12 from three-point range in the first half.
Northwest continued its strong offensive performance in the second half as the Bearcats shot over 47 percent and built as much as a 23-point lead, twice. Lincoln wouldn't get any closer than 18 points as Northwest cruised down the stretch. Northwest shot 45 percent for the game while the Blue Tigers shot 38 percent. The Bearcats also scored 23 points off of 16 Lincoln turnovers, while committing a season-low nine turnovers themselves. The Bearcats also handed-out 22 assists.
Next up for Northwest will be a date with rival Missouri Western Saturday night in St. Joseph. The Bearcats defeated the Griffons back in January 81-73, behind Curtis' 22 points. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m.
