Henry Ties Career-High in Northwest Win

Box Score

OMAHA, Neb.-Abby Henry tied a career-high with 33 points and dished-out a season-best seven assists as Northwest Missouri State evened its MIAA record with a 90-77 victory Saturday night against Nebraska-Omaha in Sapp Fieldhouse. Henry also had a career-high five steals in the game.

The Bearcats shot 44.6 percent from the floor in the game, while the Mavericks hit nearly 38 percent of their shots. Both teams shot extremely well from behind the arc as Northwest went 8-for-15 from deep (53.3 percent) and Nebraska-Omaha was 11-of-25 from downtown (44 percent). Northwest controlled much of the game, but 19 turnovers by the Bearcats helped keep Nebraska-Omaha (3-5, 0-4 MIAA) within striking distance.

After Ashley Thayer hit three, three-point field goals in under three minutes the Bearcats built their biggest lead of the game to 20 at 75-55 with 6:46 remaining. The Mavericks did not go away as they cut the Northwest lead down to 10 at 81-71 with 2:40 left in the ballgame. Four straight points by Henry and a bucket from Tara Roach would extend the Bearcat lead, which they salted away with free throws down the stretch.

Shelly Martin had 14 points in the game, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc and handed-out three helpers. Gabby Curtis added 13 points, five rebounds and three assists in the win. Tara Roach recorded her first career double-double behind 11 points and 10 rebounds. Kyla Roehrig recorded double-figure rebounds for the fourth time in the last five games, with a game-high 14 boards, Roehrig also added eight points and three blocked shots.

Northwest (6-2, 2-2 MIAA) will return to action next Saturday, Dec. 18. The Bearcats will be at home for the first time since ending their four-game road trip as they host Fort Hays State at 5:30 p.m.
