Bearcats Fall to Creighton in Exhibition
OMAHA, Neb.-Creighton University jumped out to a 19-0 lead to begin the game and never looked back as the Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team lost its exhibition game with Creighton Wednesday night in Omaha, Neb., 96-61.
Gabby Curtis led the Bearcats with 18 points and went 4-of-8 from three-point range. Curtis also led the team with three assists, five steals and seven rebounds in the game. Abby Henry put in 16 points of her own and had four steals against her former team. Henry redshirted the 2007-08 season at Creighton before arriving at Northwest.
Northwest shot 32 percent from the floor in the game as Creighton hit 54 percent of its shots, including seven three-pointers. Sarah Nelson had 16 points to lead six Jays in double-figures. Creighton also out-rebounded the Bearcats 52-38 and had 58 points in the paint.
Northwest played without post players Gentry Dietz and Kyla Roehrig. Dietz, who was a first-team all-MIAA selection a season ago, has just one semester of eligibility remaining and will play second semester. Roehrig is the Bearcats' volleyball graduate assistant and was traveling with the volleyball team on Wednesday night.
Northwest will open its season against Nebraska-Kearney on Nov. 15 in Maryville. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
