All-MIAA Selections Announced
KANSAS CITY, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State junior center Gentry Dietz has been named first-team all-MIAA by the league's coaches after a vote taken earlier today.
Dietz, a native of Omaha, Neb., was fourth in the league in scoring (15.5) and led the MIAA in rebounds (8.4) and blocks (2.0). Dietz also was third in the conference in field goal percentage shooting nearly 46 percent from the floor. She becomes the first Bearcat since Sarah Vollertsen in 2004 to be honored as a first-team selection.
Dietz scored the third-most points in program history back in January. Dietz scored a career-high 37 points and hauled down 16 rebounds in the Bearcats' 75-54 win over Fort Hays State. Dietz was also named MIAA Player of the Week back in November.
Abby Henry was a second-team selection. The Omaha, Neb., native leads the team and is third in the MIAA in scoring at 16.6 points per game. Henry is also seventh in the conference in field goal percentage (39 percent) and assists (3.3) per game. Henry is fourth in the MIAA shooting nearly 81 percent from the free-throw line.
Henry has nine 20-plus point efforts this season, including two 30-plus outbursts. Henry was named MIAA Player of the Week back on Jan. 18.
Emporia State's Cassondra Boston was named the MIAA Player of the Year.
Dietz, Henry and the Bearcats travel to Kansas City, Mo., on Thursday to begin play in the MIAA tournament. Northwest's opening-round game is against Pittsburg State at 2:15 p.m.
