Northwest WBB to Sponsor "Mary's Fight Night" Saturday
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State's women's basketball program is sponsoring a special event titled "Mary's Fight Night" in honor of Mary (Henry) Collins who was diagnosed with breast cancer in July of 2009.
Collins, who played for the Bearcats from 1991-95, will be Northwest's honorary coach Saturday when the team hosts Missouri Southern in its final home game of the season. Opening tip from Bearcat Arena is 12:30 p.m.
The Bearcat players will wear pink t-shirts during warm-ups adorning a picture of Collins from her playing days at Northwest on the front, and the player's name and number on the back. Each player will autograph their t-shirt and following team introductions, the shirts will be put on silent auction with the winning bidders being announced during the second half of the men's game.
In addition, a separate t-shirt with the team pictures of the Northwest and Missouri Southern squads will be included in the silent auction. Players from both teams will sign the shirt.
All proceeds will go to the fund set up to help Collins and her family with treatment expenses. Collins and her husband, Dan, have three children.
