MARYVILLE, Mo.-Gentry Dietz scored 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in Northwest Missouri State's 87-66 loss Saturday afternoon to Central Missouri in Bearcat Arena. The Jennies (15-10, 11-7 MIAA) shot 50 percent from the field and hit 20-of-28 free-throws. Central Missouri has now won eight of their last 10 games.
Abby Henry added 16 points and had five assists in the loss, while Shelly Martin had 12 points and hit 4-of-8 from three-point land. Ashley Thayer dished out four helpers in her first career start as a Bearcat. Monai Douglass chipped in with nine points.
The Bearcats shot 29 percent in the game, including just over 20 percent in the second-half. Northwest had 16 points in the paint compared to Central Missouri's 38 and the Jennies gathered 22 second-chance points in the game. The MIAA's leading assist team also had 18 assists compared to Northwest's 16.
The first half was tightly contested half that featured 16 lead changes and seven ties with Central Missouri taking a 42-39 lead into the half. In the second-half after Central Missouri took a 50-42 lead with a little under 17 minutes remaining the Bearcats hit back-to-back three-pointers to cut the lead to 50-48 with 15:10 remaining. That would be as close as Northwest would get as the Jennies would go on a 19-9 run to lengthen their lead and would lead by no less than nine points the rest of the way.
Central Missouri closed out the game on an 11-0 run the final 2:03 as the Bearcats fired up three-pointers as they tried to get back into the ballgame. Deidra Dace led four Jennies in double figures with 19 points.
Northwest (12-13, 8-10 MIAA) will travel to Bolivar, Mo., on Wednesday evening to take on Southwest Baptist in MIAA action beginning at 5:30 p.m. Northwest defeated Southwest Baptist 79-74 in its first meeting with the "purple" Bearcats back in January. Abby Henry led Northwest with 25 points in the win.
