Bearcats Fall in Double-Overtime at Pittsburg State

PITTSBURG, Kan.-Abby Henry set a career-high for the second consecutive game on Saturday in Northwest Missouri State's hard-fought 106-102 defeat in double overtime at Pittsburg State. Henry scored 33 points and went 12-for-12 from the free-throw line, while adding a career-high eight assists and seven rebounds in the loss.

Northwest led by as many as 11 points with just over two minutes remaining in the first half and led by three going into halftime, 42-39. The Bearcats led for all of the second-half until Pittsburg State tied the game with 45 seconds remaining at 87 and sending the game into overtime. The two teams battled back-and-forth during the two overtime periods, with the Gorillas taking the lead for good 102-100 with 1:31 remaining in the second extra frame.

In all, five Bearcats scored in double-figures in the game. Gentry Dietz recorded a double-double for the third time in the last four games, scoring 18 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. Shelly Martin scored 16 points, while Gabby Curtis and Emily Hauder added 11 and 10 respectively.

Northwest shot 37 percent from the floor while hitting 6-of-14 from three-point range and going 26-of-31 from the charity stripe. Pittsburg State hit 35 percent from the field and went to the line 48 times, making 36 of them. The Bearcats also forced four more turnovers than Pittsburg State, however the biggest different in the game came on the offensive glass. The Gorillas had 34 offensive rebounds to Northwest's 22 and compiled 36 second-chance points while the Bearcats had just eight.

Northwest (11-11, 7-8 MIAA) will be off until next Saturday when the Bearcats host Missouri Western at 1:30 p.m. inside Bearcat Arena. Northwest lost to the Griffons earlier this season 67-54, Curtis led Northwest in the loss with 20 points.
