Bearcats' Four-Game Win Streak Snapped by No. 6 Emporia
EMPORIA, Kan.-Northwest Missouri State's four-game conference win streak was snapped Sunday afternoon as the Bearcats fell at No. 6 Emporia State 91-62. The story of the game was Emporia State's hot shooting, as the Hornets hit 15-of-27 (55.6%) three-point field goals, while the Bearcats were just 3-for-16 (19%) and shot 31 percent from the floor.
Abby Henry continued her hot streak as she led all scorers with 26 points, her fourth consecutive 25 plus scoring performance. Henry also had seven rebounds and two steals in the loss. Gentry Dietz had 11 points and two blocks, while Shelly Martin chipped in with seven points. Gabby Curtis led Northwest with four assists.
After Northwest tied the game at 2-2 with just under 18 minutes to play, Brittney Miller hit a three to give Emporia State the lead, a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Northwest forced 18 turnovers and hit 13-of-15 from thee free-throw line.
Emporia State avenges their only loss of the season. In December Northwest defeated then-No.5 Emporia State 88-76.
The Bearcats (10-8, 6-5 MIAA) will play their second straight game against a ranked opponent as they hit the road on Jan. 27 to face No. 15 Washburn.
