Henry Named MIAA Player of the Week
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Northwest Missouri State sophomore point guard Abby Henry has been named the MIAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week as announced Monday by the conference office. Henry averaged 26 points in leading the Bearcats to victories against Central Missouri and Southwest Baptist.
Henry scored a career-high 27 points in an 80-67 win against Central Missouri Wednesday. It was the team's first win in Warrensburg since 2004. Henry had 17 first-half points to help the Bearcats to a 47-22 halftime lead. Henry finished 7-of-10 from the field, making both three-pointers she took and making 11-of-16 free throws. She also had nine rebounds, an assist and two steals.
Henry scored 25 points in Northwest's 79-74 win against Southwest Baptist Saturday in Maryville. She scored two points on three consecutive possessions in the final 1:30 to extend a one-point lead to seven with less than 10 seconds to play. Henry made three three-pointers, had seven rebounds, four assists and three steals in the victory.
A native of Omaha, Henry leads Northwest with 48 assists through 16 games. She ranks third on the team in points (13.3 ppg), rebounds (3.6 rpg) and steals (1.4 spg).
This is the first MIAA Player of the Week award for Henry and the second for the Bearcats this season. Gentry Dietz earned the honor in November.
