Curtis Surpasses 1,000 Career Points as Northwest Wins
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Gabby Curtis surpassed the 1,000-point mark for her career Saturday afternoon in Bearcat Arena as Northwest Missouri State defeated Southwest Baptist 79-74. Curtis scored 15 points in the contest which now gives her 1,012 in her career. Curtis scored 787 points in two seasons at Cowley County Community College before arriving at Northwest.
Abby Henry led all scorers with 25 points in the victory, her second 20-point effort in as many games. Henry hit 3-of-4 three-pointers and also added four assists, three steals and seven rebounds. Gentry Dietz had her second straight double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Dietz also led the Bearcats with two blocks. Emily Hauder came off the bench to add 10 points on 5-for-6 from the floor. Monai Douglass had a career-high six assists.
Northwest led by as many as 14 points in the game, leading 34-20 with just over two minutes to go in the first half. Southwest Baptist would proceed to score the next 14 points to tie the game at 34 with 19:11 left in the ballgame.
Northwest led for most of the second half with Southwest Baptist cutting the lead to just one, 73-72 with 1:29 to go in the game. Henry would take over from there for the Bearcats scoring the final six points for Northwest, including a steal with nine seconds remaining to seal the victory.
Northwest shot 49 percent from the field including 7-for-15 from beyond the arc. Southwest Baptist shot a whopping 30 three-pointers, while connecting on 11 of them, good for 37 percent. The Bearcats scored 18 points off of 13 SBU turnovers, while tying a season low with nine turnovers for the second time in three games.
Northwest (9-7, 5-4 MIAA) looks to continue its three-game win streak when the Bearcats travel to Joplin, Mo., to face Missouri Southern on Wednesday night at 5:30.
