Pittsburg State 79, Northwest Missouri State 68
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Pittsburg State took a 14-point lead into halftime and held on for a 79-68 win against Northwest Missouri State Wednesday at Bearcat Arena.
Bailey Waugh came off Pittsburg State's bench to score a season-high 17 points. She was 5-for-5 from three-point range and had 14 first-half points. The Gorillas (6-6, 4-1 MIAA) took a 42-28 lead into the break.
Shelly Martin scored six straight points to bring the Bearcats (6-5, 2-3) within seven early in the second half. Pittsburg State responded with a 17-4 run to pull away for good. Taylor DePrice scored 10 of her 16 points in the final half for the Gorillas.
Pittsburg State forward Nicole McCombs led all players with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Abby Henry's 17 points led four Bearcats in double figures. Gabby Curtis had 11 and Martin and Gentry Dietz finished with 10 each. Dietz had six rebounds, five blocks and four steals, but fouled out with 10 minutes remaining.
Henry was 3-for-7 from behind the arc, but her teammates combined were 1-for-12. Behind Waugh, the Gorillas were 7-of-14 from three-point range and 18-of-30 from the charity stripe.
