Bearcats Drop First of the Season in Colorado
DENVER, Colo.-Northwest Missouri State dropped their first game of the season Friday afternoon in Denver, Colo., losing to Colorado State-Pueblo 82-69 in the first day of the Metro State Thanksgiving Classic.
Abby Henry recorded a career-high for the second consecutive game. Henry led all scorers with 23 points in the game. Henry also added seven rebounds, two assists and a season-high three steals. Gentry Dietz picked up the first double-double of her career, finishing with 12 points and 12 boards. Shelly Martin had 10 points and seven rebounds, while Gabby Curtis chipped in with eight points. This is the first game this year in which Dietz and Curtis didn't both score in double figures in the same game.
Northwest struggled from the field shooting just 31 percent in the game. The Bearcats also had more turnovers than their opponent for the first time this season. Northwest had 21 turnovers to CSU-Pueblo's 15. CSU also hit 15 more free throws in the contest.
Northwest led early at 10-3 and led by two with 10 minutes to go in the first half. Pueblo would hit a three-pointer at the 9:14 mark and wouldn't trail again. The Bearcats would cut the lead down to three multiple times in the second half, but that was as close as they would get in the loss.
Northwest (4-1) will face host-Metro State tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. in the second game of the Thanksgiving Classic.
