Northwest Defeats William Jewell, Curtis Named MVP

MARYVILLE, Mo.-Gabby Curtis scored 15 points and dished out five assists as Northwest Missouri State defeated William Jewell 75-58 at Bearcat Arena Saturday night in the second day of the Winstead-Reeves Classic. Curtis was named Classic MVP for her performance. Curtis averaged 17 points, 5.5 rebounds, had nine total assists and six steals. Curtis also only turned the ball over once in the tournament.

Gentry Dietz scored 25 points for the second time this season, tying the career-high she had in the season opener. Dietz shot 12-of-17 in the game and had three rebounds. Dietz was also named to the All-Classic team for Northwest. Abby Henry added 11 points and had five assists.

The first half of the game was close until the 13:44 mark when Northwest went on a 16-4 run to go up 31-17 with just under seven minutes to go in the half. William Jewell cut the lead down to 11 at halftime, 40-29. Northwest would lead by no less than 10 the rest of the way. William Jewell made it interesting by cutting the Northwest lead down to 68-58 with 3:24 to go before Northwest went on a 7-0 run to finish the game.

Northwest would shoot over 51 percent as a team and held William Jewell to 37 percent shooting and forced 23 turnovers. The Bearcats also got more production out of its bench as the Northwest reserves outscored William Jewell's 20-2.
