MARYVILLE, Mo. – Northwest Missouri State head women's basketball coach Gene Steinmeyer has received a commitment from Monai Douglass, of St. Louis, Mo. Douglass led McCleur South-Berkeley to three district titles, including a third-place finish in the Class 4 state tournament in 2008.
"Monai is athletic and quick," said Steinmeyer. "She can play point or shooting guard, and is also a good defender."
Douglass averaged 9.7 points, 3.1 assists and 2.5 rebounds and steals during her senior season for the Bulldogs. She was a three-time St. Louis All-Metro pick and earned all-state honors during the team’s tournament run as a junior. Douglass was a four-year varsity starter and two-time team captain. She was also an outside hitter for Berkeley’s volleyball squad.
Douglass is the fifth member of Steinmeyer’s 2009 recruiting class. She joins Jennifer Jasinski (Lasing, Mich.), Whitney Rawdon (Eau Claire, Wis.), Ashley Thayer (Prairie Village, Kan.) and Gabby Curtis (Genado, Ariz.), who all signed NLIs earlier this year.
