Slow Start Dooms Bearcats Against Gorillas
MARYVILLE, Mo. - A 16-2 start by Pittsburg State provided too large a deficit for Northwest Missouri State to overcome as the Bearcats (7-15, 3-12 MIAA) fell 72-57 to the Gorillas (17-5, 12-3) today in Bearcat Arena. Jessica Burton led the Bearcats in scoring for the third-straight game with 14 points.
Melissa Nyquist led Northwest with three assists and five rebounds as one of eight Bearcats to grab multiple rebounds.
Rickeya McElroy extended her free-throw streak to 14 after going four-of-four from the line today. She finished with 12 points and four rebounds on top of a pair of steals and a blocked shot.
Northwest shot 19-of-21 from the free-throw line for its fourth-straight game with 80 percent or better. The Bearcats improve their season percentage to 76.1 and are on pace to break the program record of 75.2 set in 2007.
Nicole McCombs led all players with 18 points and 16 rebounds for her third straight double-double.
Up Next: Northwest enjoys a week off thanks to the bye in the MIAA schedule before heading to St. Joseph Feb. 14 for a 5:30 p.m. matchup with rival-Missouri Western.
