Bearcats Bounce Back with 60-47 Win Against Avila
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest led start-to-finish to record a 60-47 victory against Avila today at Bearcat Arena. Three Bearcats scored in double figures as Northwest scored 33 points off 32 Eagle turnovers.
Northwest (4-2) opened an 11-point lead eight minutes into the game off a layup from Rickeya McElroy, who ended the game with nine points. The Bearcats entered the half with a six-point lead at 28-22, with 16 points coming off turnovers.
The Bearcats built up a 20 point lead with six minutes remaining at 53-33 after Jessica Burton made her only three-pointer of the game. She finished with 10 points and one rebound short of a double-double.
Amber Vandevender made a season-high eight assists. She also made four steals and grabbed four rebounds.
Shelly Martin led all players with 15 points off the bench and went five-of-nine from the field. Meghan Brue made 12 points and seven rebounds after going a perfect six-of-six from the free throw line. Brue stands 33 points shy of 1,000 career points going into the start of the MIAA season this week.
Avila's Ashley Townsend led all players with 15 rebounds and scored 14 points.
