Bearcats Defeat Tritons for Third Straight Road Win
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Northwest made 16 steals and five players had 10 or more points as the Bearcats (3-1) defeated Missouri-St. Louis (1-2) 89-69 at the Mark Twain Building tonight. Rickeya McElroy led all players with 19 points and eight rebounds in her second straight start as Northwest won its third straight road game dating back to last season.
The Bearcats jumped out to 5-0 lead within the first two minutes and never trailed in the first half as the two teams played to a 36-36 tie by halftime. Northwest shot 50 percent (four-of-eight) from the three-point line in the first 20 minutes, its best halftime percentage since Jan. 26, 2008 against Central Missouri (64.3%).
After the Tritons took their first lead of the game early in the second half, Northwest used a 9-2 run and scored on its next six possessions to take 57-42 lead with 15:01 remaining. Missouri-St. Louis would never be within four points of the Bearcats for the rest of the game as the Bearcats claimed a 20-point victory against the Tritons, the largest road victory since Jan. 19, 2008.
McElroy finished with double-digit points for the third time this season and went nine-of-12 from the free-throw line. Meghan Brue finished with 15 points for her third straight game with 10 or more points and made a season-best four assists. Jessica Burton and Micela Uriell rounded out the starters with double-digit points with 14 and 11, respectively. Tara Roach scored 11 points off the bench in her largest offensive output this season.
The Bearcats shot 51 percent from the field, their most accurate night since Jan. 26, 2008. Northwest also made 16 steals, with four coming from Burton and Amber Vandevender, and forced another nine Missouri-St. Louis turnovers.
Up Next: Northwest heads to Omaha, Neb., for the Nebraska-Omaha Thanksgiving Classic Nov. 28. The Bearcats face St. Cloud State at 3 p.m. from Sapp Fieldhouse.
