Roach Leads Bearcats in Exhibition Loss to Illinois State
NORMAL, Ill. - Tara Roach scored 13 points and added seven rebounds in her first game as a Bearcat as Northwest Missouri State dropped an 88-56 contest today to Division I Illinois State in exhibition play. The Bearcats held two-time Missouri Valley Conference MVP Kristi Cirone to seven points.
The preseason favorite in the MVC, Illinois State led start-to-finish in the contest. Shala Jackson led the Redbirds with 19 points and nine rebounds.
Roach was the only freshman to start for Northwest as Jessica Burton and Micaela Uriell filled out the other forward positions. Burton led Northwest with three steals and added 12 points while Uriell led the Bearcats with three assists.
Amber Vandevender and Meghan Brue took the two guard positions, where Brue led the rebounding effort with eight and scored 12 points.
Northwest begins the regular season in a week with a trip to defending Division II runner-up South Dakota Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. The Coyotes are beginning their first season in transition to Division I status.
