Hopkins Promoted to Associate Head Coach
MARYVILLE, Mo.-Lori Hopkins, an assistant women's basketball coach at Northwest Missouri State for the past six seasons, has been appointed associate head coach as announced by head coach Gene Steinmeyer.
"Coach Hopkins plays huge roles in recruiting and mentoring players as they come through our basketball program," said Steinmeyer. "She continues to upgrade the talent level in our program and she's primarily responsible for the academic successes of our players."
The 2007-08 squad had an average cumulative grade point average of 3.08.
"Lori does much more than just monitor our players," Steinmeyer continued. "She finds the individual needs of each player and works hard to ensure they have a good experience in both basketball and college life at Northwest."
Hopkins began at Northwest as a graduate assistant and assistant coach in 2002. She'd spent the previous two seasons as an assistant at The Metropolitan State College of Denver.
During Hopkins' tenure, the Bearcats have won two MIAA tournament titles and made three NCAA tournament appearances. Northwest had made two NCAA appearances in its history prior to her arrival.
Hopkins earned her bachelor's degree at Nebraska Wesleyan and was a member of the Prairie Wolves' basketball team from 1989 to 1991. Despite playing just two seasons at NWU, Hopkins ranks fifth in program history for field goal percentage (.500) and ninth in career rebounds with 459.
