Schumacher Earns MIAA Honors
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State women's basketball player's Mandi Schumacher and Kelli Nelson received Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) postseason honors, as announced today by the league office. Both seniors, Schumacher was awarded Second Team All-MIAA and Nelson earned honorable mention honors.
Schumacher posted the best season of her four-year Northwest career. She tallied 20 double-digit scoring games, 10 20-point scoring games, seven double-double's, averaged 15.7 points per game and earned MIAA Player of the Week honors on January 21. Schumacher scored 25 points three straight games, which matched her career-high, in mid-February and also posted a double-double in three straight contests in late December. It's the second MIAA postseason award Schumacher has earned.
Nelson scored double-digit points in 14 games, shot 86.1 percent from the free-throw line, and nailed 66 trey's in her senior campaign. She set the school record when she knocked down nine three-point field goals against Truman Feb. 13 and finished with a career-high 31 points.
Both Schumacher and Nelson became 1,000 point scorers during the 2007-08 season. Schumacher matched the 1,000-point mark with 17 points against Chaminade and Nelson passed 1,000 points with 31 against Truman.
