Bearcats Need One to Clinch MIAA Tourney Birth
MARYVILLE -- The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team needs just one win to clinch a spot in the 2007-08 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) Tournament. The Bearcats travel to Topeka, Kan., and matchup with No. 18 Washburn at 5:30 p.m.
Northwest upset Washburn, ranked No. 4 at the time, in Maryville on Jan. 12 winning 50-45. The Bearcats held the Lady Blues to just 16 second half points and hit 8-of-10 free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.
Senior Mandi Schumacher has scored a career-high 25 points in three straight games, including a double-double in the win against Pittsburg State, hitting 33-of-58 field goals. Fellow classmate Kelli Nelson has poured in 45 points in the past two games, hitting 13-of-26 from beyond the arc, and junior Jessica Burton is coming off a career-high eight assists versus PSU.
