Schumacher's Bench Points Not Enough in Bearcat Loss
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball dropped its third straight non-conference game losing 71-64 to Nebraska-Omaha. The Bearcats led at half, 35-34, but struggled from the field in the second half hitting just 22.9 percent from the field. It's the first time this season the Bearcats have lost when leading at half.
The loss drops Northwest to 4-3 on the season and improves the Mavericks to 9-1.
The Bearcats trailed by as much as 10 points, 27-17, in the first half, but an 18-7 run in the last six minutes gave Northwest the lead heading into the locker room. In the second half, Northwest kept the halftime lead for the first seven minutes and led by as much as five points. The Bearcats relinquished their lead on an Alyssa Green jumper with 11:10 to play, giving the Mavericks a 46-45 lead. Northwest would never lead again.
Mandi Schumacher came off the bench and led the Northwest offense with a season-high 21 points, shooting 10-of-18 from the field. Schumacher is now just 17 points shy of becoming the 20th player in Northwest history to score 1,000 career points.
Three other Bearcats hit for double-digits with Andrea Dill contributing 15 points on 5-of-12 shooting. Lauren Williams added 10 points and grabbed a Bearcat high seven rebounds.
Maverick guard Alyssa Green poured in 18 points, going 8-for-8 at the free-throw line, to lead the Mavericks. Amanda Brodsack contributed 10 points and nine boards.
The free-throw line favored the Maverick's, who hit 29-of-33, including 18-of-22 in the second half. The 29 made free-throws is an opponent high versus the Bearcats this season. Northwest hit 21-of-29 from the charity stripe.
Northwest will travel to Honolulu, Hawaii to play in the Hoop 'N' Surf Classic on Dec. 16-17. The Bearcats will take on Chaminade (Hawaii) on the 16th at 5 p.m. and Angelo State (Texas) on the 17th at 2 p.m. CST.
