Winstead-Reeves Preview

MARYVILLE -- The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team will open its regular season in the third annual Winstead-Reeves Classic. The Bearcats will battle Evangel University Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Avila University Saturday at 5:30 p.m.

The Bearcats are 4-0 all-time in the Winstead-Reeves Classic. The Bearcats are 7-1 in season opners under coach Gene Steinmeyer and 30-6 all-time.

Northwest is 2-0 all-time against both Avila and Evangel. The Bearcats have not played Evangel in 25 years, but played Avila in 2003.

The Bearcats return four starters from last year's team that qualified for the NCAA Tournament. It was just the fourth time in school history that the women's team made the national tournament.
