Schumacher, Williams Post Double-Doubles in Loss to SBU
Baptist jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first two minutes, but Northwest countered with an 11-4 run to tie the game at 11. A Jessica Burton layup would give the Bearcats their first lead, 18-16, with 13:06 left in the first half. Northwest extended its lead to seven before SBU went on a 9-2 run to knot the game at 30. Three free-throws by Lauren Williams gave Northwest a 47-44 halftime lead. The Bearcats were 13-of-17 from the charity stripe in the first half.
Northwest's offense scaled back in the second half scoring just 33 points and dropping its second straight game when leading at half. Northwest led 76-75 with just under three minutes remaining before two jumpers by Courtney Creed gave Southwest Baptist a 79-76 lead. Mandi Schumacher got Northwest within one hitting a jumper in the paint with two minutes left, but the Bearcats turned the ball over twice in the last 30 seconds and failed to convert on their opportunities.
Meghan Brue complimented Schumacher and Williams double-doubles with 14 points and April Miller tied a career-high with nine points. Miller and Williams each dished out four assists with Burton and Williams grabbing three steals.
Southwest Baptist's five starters scored all but 12 of SBU's 85 points.
Northwest is now 23-19 all-time against the Lady Bearcats.
