Bearcats Travel to Unfriendly Looney Fieldhouse
MARYVILLE -- The Missouri Western Looney Fieldhouse has not been friendly to the Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team. Northwest is just 6-16 all-time in St. Joseph and has lost seven of the last eight meetings in the Griffons' house by an average margin of 21.4 points.
Tip is set for 5:30 p.m., Wednesday. Get your tickets by calling the Missouri Western ticket office at 816-271-5904. Prices are $7 for adults and $3 for ages 7-high school.
The Bearcats are currently on a four-game losing streak against the Griffons, but hope to break the slump with the hot shooting of Mandi Schumacher and Kelli Nelson. Both seniors have been playing great basketball lately with Schumacher recording three straight double-doubles and Nelson shooting 11-of-21 from long range in conference play.
The Bearcats are one of three teams to start 2-0 in the MIAA and are second in the league in turnover margin.
Northwest will have to contain Jill Johnson, a second-team All-MIAA selection in 2006-07, and Yanique Javois, an All-Defensive selection a year ago. These two players double the rest of their teammates in points per game and both shoot better than 48 percent from the field.
