
BILLINGS, Mont.—Megan Brue’s season-high 20 points led three Bearcats in double figures as Northwest remained perfect with a 74-59 victory against Montana State Billings Friday at the Yellow Jacket Classic.
The win moves the Bearcats to 3-0 and drops the Yellowjackets to 0-3.
Montana State-Billings led for most of the first nine minutes as Mandi Schumacher hit the first Northwest field goal at 11:07 left in the first half. The Bearcats first eight points come from the charity stripe, finishing the game 20-of-27.
Pesky Bearcat defense held the Yellowjackets to 34 percent shooting and April Miller held Billings top scorer, Alira Carpenter, to just eight points and 2-of-10 shooting.
Northwest went into halftime with a 30-24 lead and outscored the Yellowjackets 44-35 in the second half.
The Northwest offense struggled in the first half shooting 28.5 percent going 0-for-11 from 3-point range. In the second half the Bearcats shooting woe's turned around hitting 53.6 percent and 6-of-12 from beyond the arc.
Neither team hit a 3-pointer until Brue knocked down one with 14:30 left in the second half.
Lauren Williams scored 10 points and Jessica Burton chipped in 11 to compliment Brue's 20 points. Brue hit 8-of-10 from the free throw line and Williams hit 5-of-6. Mandi Schumacher pulled down nine rebounds and Williams grabbed eight.
The Bearcats will take on Mary (N.D.) tomorrow at 2 p.m. to finish the Montana State-Billings Yellowjacket Classic.
