KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball extended a six-game winning streak versus Truman State to seven with an 80-70 win. The Bearcats ended the first half on a 17-2 run, after trailing nearly the entire half. It is the first back-to-back wins for Northwest, who moved to No. 8 in the South Central Region poll today (Feb. 7), since early December when they defeated St. Mary's (Texas) (12/4) and Southwest Baptist (12/9).

Junior forward Lauren Williams finished with a career-high 26 points, including 6-of-10 from beyond the arc. Williams was complimented by junior center Mandi Schumacher who contributed 17 points, her fourth double-digit game in the last five. Sophomore guard Meghan Brue chipped in 15 points, the only other Bearcat in double figures.

The Bulldogs were led by sophomore forward Georgia Mueller's 25 points on 11-of-19 shooting. Only one other Truman player finished with at least 10 as junior guard Julia Montebello poured in 18 points.

Coach Gene Steinmeyer had this to say about Williams career game. "I keep telling Lauren to look for the three and I want her to be more aggressive shooting the three."

Steinmeyer also commented, "the way we ended the first half was the biggest factor."

Northwest was actually out-shot 51.9 (27-52) percent to 47.5 (28-59) percent, but hit 10-of-24 3-pointers compared to Truman's 5-of-17.

Northwest will travel to Pittsburg State Saturday, February 10 for a 1:30 contest.
