Northwest Drops Second Meeting with Emporia State 46-60
MARYVILLE, Mo. - ( stats)The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team dropped its second match-up with Emporia State 60-46 in the last seven days. Northwest scored just 21 points in the first half, the second lowest of the season, and trailed by 10 at half, 31-21.
The Hornets led by as much as 15 in the second half after a 3-pointer by Cassondra Boston. The Bearcats cut the deficit to four with 5:52 left thanks to a layup by senior guard Katie O'Grady, but scored just six points the rest of the contest.
Only two Bearcats hit double digits score a season-low 46 points. Sophomore guard Meghan Brue and junior guard Kelli Nelson each had 11 points to lead Northwest. Junior forward Lauren Williams had six points, rebounds and assists.
Northwest is 12-9 (5-6 MIAA) after the loss and closes out the month with 3-6 record in January. Emporia State jumps to 15-4 (8-2 MIAA) overall.
Northwest will host Central Missouri State on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 1:30 p.m. The Bearcats lost to the Jennies in their first meeting 80-69 in Warrensburg.
