Cat's Scorch Bulldogs 80-57
MARYVILLE, Mo. - ( stats) The Northwest Missouri State womens basketball team jumped out to an early 10-point lead, hitting their first four 3-pointers, in a 80-57 blowout win versus Truman State. Northwest hit five of its first seven shots, including three 3-pointers from senior guard Katie O'Grady. The Bearcats led by as much as 32 points in the second half.
The 19-point first hafl Northwest lead was the biggest margin this season going into the lockerroom. The Bearcats held Truman to 23.5 (8-34) shooting in the first half and finished the game shooting 35.6 (21-59). Northwest forced 24 Bulldog turnovers, including 16 steals, and edged out Truman on the boards 45 to 44.
Northwest was led by O'Grady's 17 points, on 5-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc. It is the second time O'Grady has led the team in scoring this season. Sophomore guard Meghan Brue had 14 points, eight coming from the charity stripe. Junior forward Mandi Schumacher posted her fourth double-double of the season grabbing 11 rebounds and chipping in 10 points. Two bench players, sophomore guards Lindsay Bayer and Micaella Uriell, posted career-highs in points with 11 and eight respectively.
The Bulldogs were led by freshman guard Lindsey Edgeman with 13 points, coming off the bench. Three starters posted 12 points apiece - sophomore forward Georgia Mueller, junior guard Katie Fowler and senior gaurd Natalie Schupbach.
The win moves Northwest to 11-5 overall and 4-3 in the MIAA, while Truman drops to 5-10 and 0-7 in the MIAA. Northwest wins its first home conference game and extends the Bulldogs losing streak to nine games.
The Bearcats will travel to Central Missouri on Saturday, Jan. 20 for a 1:30 p.m. contest.
