Bearcats Extend Home Winning Streak
MARYVILLE, Mo. - ( stats) The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team hit 10 3-pointers in the first half on its way to a 73-61 non-conference win against St. Mary's (Texas). Northwest hit six consecutive 3-pointers over a four minute period, with three coming from senior guard Katie O'Grady. A 18-4 run to start the second half gave the Bearcats a 62-32 lead with 14:04 left. The Rattlers countered with a 27-8 run to get within 11 points, but Northwest held on hitting free throws down the stretch.
O'Grady hit a career-high five 3-pointers on route to tying her career-high 21 points. She scored 17 of those 21 in the first half, but only attempted two field goals in the second half. Sophomore guard Jessica Burton chipped in 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting and helped out defensivley recording three steals. Junior center Mandi Schumacher and sophomore guard Meghan Brue both contributed 13 points in the win.
Charlena Rodez topped the Rattlers scoring log with 14 points. Only two other St. Mary's (Texas) players recorded double-digit points. The Rattlers are 1-7 after the loss.
Northwest (7-1) will open conference play this Saturday, Dec. 9 at Southwest Baptist at 5:30 p.m.
