Womens Basketball opens the Winstead-Reeves Classic with Win
MARYVILLE, Mo. - ( stats) The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team played the second game of the Winstead-Reeves classic and defeated Harris-Stowe 78-69. The Bearcats shot an impressive 53.6 percent (15-28) in the first half to take a seven-point lead into halftime, 40-33. Some turnovers in the second half by Northwest allowed the Hornets to hang around getting as close as three points. However, a10-0 run late in the second half closed out the Hornets.
Sophomore guard Jessica Burton had career highs in points and rebounds as she led the Bearcats with 22 points. Junior forward Mandi Schumacher recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. It is the second game in a row a Bearcat has had a double-double as junior Lauren Williams recorded one against Rockhurst this past Wednesday, Nov. 15. Senior guard Katie O'Grady chipped in 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting.
Northwest will close out the Winstead-Reeves Classic playing Missouri Valley tommorrow at 7:30 p.m. The Bearcats start the season 2-0.
