Women's Basketball Begins Season With 73-53 Season-Opening Win Over Rockhurst
MARYVILLE, Mo. - ( stats) The Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team tipped off with a 73-53 win against Rockhurst University tonight in Bearcat Arena. The win gives coach Steinmeyer a 7-1 record in season openers as he begins his eighth season on the bench. A stingy Bearcat defense held Rockhurst to 25 percent (16-64) from the field and 16 percent (4-25) from beyond the arc.
Junior Lauren Williams paced the Bearcats recording a double-double, 13 points and 11 rebounds, and only missed one shot (4-5 field, 2-2 free throw line) all night. Junior transfer Ashley Baker led Northwest with 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Two other Bearcats jumped into double-digits as sophomore's Jessica Burton and Meghan Brue each contributed 10 points.
Northwest will host the Winstead-Reeves Classic Friday, Nov. 17 and 18. They take on Harris-Stowe on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Missouri Valley on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
