"Shaq's 24-hour Nightmare" Fundraising Results
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team had a long day and night on Oct. 6. The "Shaq's 24 hour Nightmare" fundraising effort, which started on Oct. 6 at 12 p.m. and ended Oct. 7 at 12 p.m., had the Bearcat players take 6,680 free throws. That's approximately 278 free throws an hour and nearly five free throws a minute. The team made 5,848 total free throws for a 87.5 percentage from the charity stripe.
Ashley Baker, a junior transfer from Moberly Area Community College, had the best free throw percentage shooting 94 percent. Junior guard April Miller shot the most free throws attempting 838 over the 24 hour period. Junior forward Lauren Williams made the most consecutive free throws dropping in 74 in a row at three in the morning! Five Bearcats shot better than 90 percent during the fundraising event.
This event helped raise money for the team's travel costs and other unexpected costs throughout the 2006-07 season.
