Senior Laura Friederich Named Academic All-District
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest Missouri State senior women's basketball athlete Laura Friederich (Overland Park, Kan.) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII third-team squad, announced today.
"Laura is a poster young woman for student-athletes," head coach Gene Steinmeyer said. "She has balance and priority in her life. She is also one a heck of a basketball player too."
Friederich, who majors in chemistry, carries a 3.54 GPA on a 4.0 scale. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Friederich will end her brilliant career statistically as one of the top women's basketball players at Northwest. She will finish in the top three in 3-point field goals made (153) and attempted (419). She is just three made 3-pointers away from taking the top spot at Northwest. Friederich will also be in the top five in scoring (1,365) and steals (155) at Northwest.
She is also just one of three women's basketball players from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association to be honored with the award. Emporia State's Casey Henningsen and Michelle Stueve were the others, who were named to the second-team.
