Northwest Ends Homestand on Winning Note Against Peru St., 90-55

MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Northwest Missouri State extended its winning streak to five tonight with a 90-55 win over Peru St. The Bearcats recorded a season high 23 steals to match their season high 90 points and four total blocks.

The 'Cats fell behind in the first minutes of the game to a 12-6 deficit. The Bobcats turned the ball over eight times in the next six minutes to send Northwest on a 23-5 run for a 12 point lead at 29-17.

The Bearcats kept up the pace and held Peru St. to 24 points in the first half increasing their lead to 47-24 before the break.

Freshman Megan Hamilton and sophomore Katie O'Grady came off the bench and led the scoring in the first half with eight and seven points respectively. Northwest's non-starters held their own, scoring as many points as the Bobcats in the first 20 minutes of play.

The second half held the same fate as the first for Peru St. The 'Cats went on a 21-7 run six minutes into the second half to take a 73-42 advantage. The Bobcats were plagued with turnovers with 17 in each half allowing Northwest to score 35 points directly off the turnovers. The 'Cats went eight for 16 from three point land in the second half after missing 14 treys in the first half. Peru St. fell even further behind the 'Cats and was defeated by a score of 90-55.

Northwest's bench scored over half of the Bearcats' points as Hamilton and O'Grady ended up with 14 and 13 points. Also coming off the bench was freshman Kelli Nelson with seven points and a season high eight steals. Laura Friederich added 12 points and six rebounds.

The 'Cats ended the night 30 for 77 from the field (39.0 percent) and 11 for 33 from behind the arc (33.3 percent). They also got plenty of time at the free throw line hitting 70.4 percent of their 27 tries. Peru St. was 19-55 from the field and only 4 for 17 from three point range.

Northwest's record improves to 5-3 and Peru St. falls to 1-10.

Northwest will travel to Nebraska-Omaha on Sat., Dec. 11 for a 2:00 p.m. game before travelling to the Hoop-N-Surf Classic in Hawaii on Dec. 19-20.
