Bearcats Roar Past Rockhurst, 85-59
MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Northwest Missouri State is on a roll after a win tonight over Rockhurst with a final score of 85-59. The Bearcats have won their last four games raising their record to 4-3. The Hawks dropped to 1-5.
The 'Cats kept the Hawks away from the basket collecting 22 steals and keeping their turnovers to a minumum with eight. Northwest scored 36 points off of Rockhurst's turnovers.
The Bearcats scored first in the game after a steal by Meghan Blay with a jumper by Ashely Poptanycz. A three-pointer by Rockhurst's Jessica Rethman gave the Hawks their only lead at 5-4. The 'Cats took back the advantage and ended the half with a 19 point overhead on Rockhurst with a 41-22 score.
The second half proved no different from the first with the Bearcats dominating on defense forcing 13 Hawk turnovers. The scoring margin was extended to 32 points with 1:37 left in the game with two treys by Kelli Nelson and one by Katie O'Grady.
Northwest's bench scored a combined 37 points, led by Megan Hamilton with 13 and Kelli Nelson with 12. Laura Friederich scored 20 points tonight posting her fourth game this season scoring 20 or more points. Chelsea Ernzen pulled down her career high 10 rebounds.
Maegan Pulse scored 12 points for the Hawks and Shawna Dvorak pulled down a game high 16 rebounds.
The Bearcats shot 38.6 percent from the field and 40.9 from behind the arc. Rockhurst hit only 32.3 percent of their shots from the field but went 12 for 12 from the free throw line while Northwest went 12 for 18.
Northwest ends its homestand on Fri., Dec. 3 versus Peru St. at 7:00 p.m. This will close out home contests until Jan. 5 when the Bearcats play Missouri Western.
