Northwest Rolls Past Rolla, 92-70
ROLLA, Mo. -- The No. 21 Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team wrapped up the regular season with a 92-70 win at Missouri-Rolla on Saturday afternoon. The 'Cats now head to the MIAA Tournament wit a 21-6 record, 14-4 in conference play.
Northwest never trailed in the game, jumping out to an early 9-4 lead on a three-point jumper by Erica Hatterman (Sr., Lost Springs, Kan.) at the 15:05 mark. The 'Cats stretched their lead to as many as 12, but the Lady Miners would not go quietly on their home floor.
A 14-4 run midway through the first half brought Rolla within two, at 24-22, with 5:43 remaining in the half. The Bearcats answered with a 16-9 run of their own to close out the half and take a 40-31 lead into halftime.
Northwest put the game away early in the second half, when a 24-8 run, capped by Katie Scherer (Sr., Centerview, Mo.) layup, put the Bearcats up by 25 with just under 12 minutes to play. The Northwest offense continued to fire on all cylinders, as the 'Cats extended the lead to a game-high 29 with two minutes remaining in the game, en route to the 92-70 victory.
Hatterman notched a career-high 25 points, which included five three-point field goals, to lead all scoreres. She was joined in double-figures by Laura Friederich (Soph., Overland Park, Kan.) with 15 and Ashely Poptanycz (Jr., Westboro, Mo.) with 10 points and eight boards.
