Bearcats Roll Past Nebraska-Omaha
MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Northwest set a team record for three-pointers made in a single game and four Bearcats scored in double-figures, as the Northwest Missouri State women's basketball team picked up an 85-59 win over Nebraska-Omaha Wednesday night. With the win, the 'Cats move to 5-1 on the season.
The Bearcats never trailed during the game, jumping out to an early 15-5 lead on a jumper by Laura Friederich (Soph., Overland Park, Kan.). The Mavericks fought back to get within two on a bucket by Skeeter Zoucha, but a 13-5 run, capped by a layup from Ashely Poptanycz (Jr., Westboro, Mo.), put Northwest up by 10. The 'Cats closed out the half with a 14-9 run to take a 44-29 lead into the locker room.
The 'Cats continued their hot shooting in the second half, opening up a 29-point lead on a Poptanycz layup with just under 16 minutes left in the game. The Northwest lead grew to as many as 32 on a bucket by Jenna Wolfe (Sr., Clay Center, Kan.) with five minutes remaining. UNO's Andrea Schoepf hit a three-pointer in the final seconds of the game to make the final score 85-59.
The 'Cats were led by Brooke Hogue (Sr., Albany, Mo.) with 19 points, including five three-point baskets. Poptanycz added 14 points and six boards, while Friederich chipped in with 14 points. Tanesha Fields (Sr., Overland Park, Kan.) had 10 points and three rebounds.
Northwest will be back in action Saturday, Dec. 6, hosting Mt. Mercy at 1:30 p.m.
