Bearcats sweep Griffons, 3-0
MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Northwest Missouri State volleyball team held off a gritty Missouri Western squad Tuesday night for a 3-0 win in MIAA action inside Bearcat Arena.
Northwest improved to 12-13 on the year and 6-6 in league play as they still hold control of their own destiny for a spot in the MIAA Postseason Tournament. The Griffons fell to 12-13 overall and 3-9 as the Bearcats also snapped a six-game losing streak.
The Bearcats were able to erase errors that had plagued the team during their skid and dominated most of the match for a 25-14, 25-22, 25-23 victory.
It was one of the best offensive performances from the Bearcats on the season who hit .325 in the match, including .455 in the first set.
Junior setter Bridget Hanafin paced the offense with 42 assists as Abby Graves led the way with 18 kills. Graves also recorded a .417 hitting percentage for Northwest.
Shelby Duren continued her emergence in the Bearcat lineup, as the freshman added 13 kills and a .355 hitting percentage.
Northwest returns to action this weekend for a pair of pivotal MIAA matches. Friday the Bearcats travel to Lindenwood before heading to Missouri Southern Saturday. First serve from St. Charles, Mo., is set for 7 p.m.
