'Cats fall to #3 Lady Blues, 3-0
TOPEKA, Kan. – The Northwest Missouri State volleyball dropped a tough match Friday night to 3rd-ranked Washburn, 3-0, in MIAA action from Lee Arena.
Northwest fell to 11-12 on the season and moved to 5-5 in league play as the Bearcats sit in a tie with Fort Hays State in seventh place. Washburn improved to 22-1 overall and 9-1 in the conference as they currently sit in a first place tie with Central Missouri.
Miscues plagued the Bearcats who fell 25-10, 25-17, 25-15 for their fifth straight loss.
The Lady Blues held the Bearcats to a season low, -.043 hitting percentage. It marked only the third time Northwest has been held to a negative percentage on the year with the other coming against then-No. 3 Southwest Minnesota and Truman.
Northwest battled back to hang close with Washburn in the second set, however 13 errors killed the Bearcat rally. The third set was all Lady Blues, as they pulled out to a 11-2 lead and extended it 20-9 cruising to their eighth straight victory.
Abby Graves led Northwest with nine kills while Dallas Gardner finished with 14 assists.
The Bearcats look to snap their skid as they travel to Emporia State Saturday to continue MIAA action. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
